Note | What follows is to be found on Ancestry and provides something of Tamer Brewer's background: The Dorset County Archives Service provides an image, page 21, for baptisms at Cranborne, Dorset, in 1816. This shows the baptism of Piety Brewer on the 8th of September. She was the daughter of Ruth and George. We will note here that Ancestry provides images from the Dorset Record Office. This covers marriages in the year of 1810. This shows marriages in the Parish of Cranborne, one of which is that of George Brewer and Ruth Fry, both of Cranborne. They were married on 7 January, 1811. Via Ancestry, the Dorset Record Office provides an image of a marriage between Piety Brewer and Charles Nicklin in Cranborne. This is dated 8th April 1837. A baptism for Tamer Brewer has not been found, however. she does appear in the 1841 census at Cranborne in the household of Charles Nicklin and his wife Piety. She is age 13 and with obvious Brewer siblings who are also living with Charles and Piety. We must believe Piety and Tamer to be sisters. The 1851 census shows the Nicklins, still at Cranborne. Piety's name is rendered as Betsy, but they are still the same couple for later years again show her as Piety. The point here is that Charles and 'Betsy' have a daughter in 1851, age 6, and named Tamer. A note here about Tamer's daughter Georgina. First, we will note a marriage at Cranborne dated January 10, 1839, between a Stephen Lush and Mary Fry. Second, we will note the 1851 census at Cranborne. This shows Georgina Brewer, age 1, lodger, in the home of Stephen and Mary Lush. And, third, the 1861 census at Cranborne shows Georgina, age 11, as a boarder, in the home of Stephen and Mary Lush. Since we know that Mary's maiden name was Fry we must believe her to be a cousin of Tamer's. The 1861 census at Kingston City, Frontenac County, Ontario, has James and Tamer Tyner residing there. This makes sense, since at least some of the children claim birth in Kingston. The indexing for this census is quite difficult, the family name being indexed as Tymon. Still, they are present in District 8 of the Sydenham Ward of Kingston. With them is daughter Charlotte. This is on page 203 of the census. Ancestry presents it as their image 1845 for the County of Frontenac. By 1871, James and Tamer have with them four children, plus a 'servant', so shown, Georgina Brewer, age 20, born England. The 1871 Canadian census was begun on the 2nd of April. In June, Georgina married John Mortimer, notes for which appear under Georgina's name. The 1881 Canadian census has James and Tamer in the St. Thomas Ward of East Toronto. With them is a servant Robert Turner, for whom see notes for Charlotte. The 1891 census shows James and Tamer in St. James Ward, Centre Toronto. This is the last census wherein they appear. Tamer died in 1893 and James in 1899. Death reg. 023854-93 Toronto, York Co. Tamer B. Tyner died December 4th, 1893. Age 63. Married. Born England. Methodist. Physician and informant Dr. J. Ball, Toronto. See notes for husband James with regard to Tamer's date of burial. Note that St. James Cemetery in Toronto shows Tamer Tyner's given name as 'Tamer' in their records, but also as Tamar in one of their ledgers. The death date they have for Tamer agrees with her death registration. They record Tamer being buried in St. James on 6th December, 1893. |
