Note | Birth reg. 020360-70 Onondaga Twp., Brant Co. George Leopold Lincoln and Margaret Matilda Lincoln (twins) born March 30, 1870. Parents George Lincoln, farmer, and Mary Bautinheimer. Person delivering children midwife. Informant George Lincoln, Onondaga. The registration number was written in by hand. There was an attempt on the page to apply the usual numbered stamp, but these efforts have been stroked out. 1870 is a bit early for such numbering, so it's difficult to know if the number should really apply. Unusually, for the births of two children, only one entry was made, which is for them both. Beyond this, we may say that George Leopold Lincoln, the twin shown above, was named after a nephew of his father's, or in other words, he was named after a first cousin, George Leopold Lincoln, born in October of 1843 in Walton, County Norfolk. George of Walton is said to have come to Canada about 1861 and stayed for a time with his uncle, George Lincoln of the Cainsville Circuit, which is George, the husband of Mary Bawtinheimer. George died May 16, 1863, according to his obituary as referred to below. For more information about George the nephew see page 200 Vol 4, McKenzie's Obituaries From Ontario's Christian Guardian, 1861 to 1870, Global Heritage Press, Milton (now Ottawa). Brant County branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society provides a transcription of Deagle-Mason Cemetery in Onondaga Township. A date for the original transcription is not provided, but information was used to show that Leopold Lincoln was buried in this cemetery. The dates on the stone as shown in what was apparently an old transcription were 1844-1863. The stone was illegible in 2004. It should be mentioned that the gravestone in Deagle-Mason Cemetery shows his name as Leopold Lincoln. His first name, George, does not appear on the original transcription, which was probably dones in the 1980s. |
