Page 62 shows Enoch Howell, age 21, in Captain Alexander Aikmans's Company of the 1st Regiment of the Gore District. The same page shows he is present with his brothers Isaac, age 27; Peter, age 35; and, probably a nephew, Garret, age 20. The 1st Gore is drawn from the Ancaster area. After that, we lose sight of Enoch until he is found in the 1851 census in Ancaster. He is with his wife, Drusilla, and four children, and they are shown as Wesleyan Methodists. The agricultural portion of this census shows him to be on the 2nd concession in Ancaster, but he is not shown as being on a lot and no quantity of land is shown as being in his possession. He has yet to be found in the 1861 census, but with the 1871 census he is with wife Drusilla in Brantford Township. Again, they are shown as Wesleyan Methodists. No children are shown with them. Enoch and Drusilla are still in Brantford Township in 1881. The are shown as Canadian Methodists. With them are Rachel Howell, 23, and Hiram Howell, 21. Rachel and Hiram are shown as Methodist Episcopal. It has yet to be researched, but they are probably Enoch and Drusilla's grandchildren. The census page does not show the two younger Howells as married. A Canadian death registration for Enoch has not been found. He apparently died in Stanton, Montcalm County, Michigan, in 1889. His parentage and background is mainly shown as unknown. His place of birth is shown as New Jersey. Enoch's parents were from New Jersey, but Enoch was born in Canada. Still, the Michigan death registration is probably otherwise correct. His date of death is shown as July 27, 1889. A place of burial for Enoch has not been found. |
