James Husband
ID # 7471, (1797-1853)
| Father | George Husband |
| Mother | Elizabeth White |
| Birth | James Husband was born in September 1797 at Ireland. |
| Marriage | He married Hannah Hoowee on 12 December 1827 at Pelham Township, Niagara District. This marriage record is held by the Canadian Quaker Archives and Library in Newmarket, Ontario. It is identified as Archives: H-7-1 and is catalogued as 'Pelham Monthly Meeting register, Record of Births, Marriages and Deaths, 1790-1856.' It has also been microfilmed and is available at the Archives of Ontario, MS 303, reel 42. The following appears on page 90: This identifies the couple as James Husband of the Township of Pelham, County of Lincoln and Province of Upper Canada, son of George Husand and Elizabeth his wife, and Hannah Hoover of Pelham, daughter of John Hoowee and Rebecca his wife. The couple were married on 12 December, 1827, at a public meeting of the Society of Friends in Pelham. The witnesses were: John Hoowee XXX Willson Jefse Willson Elizabeth Hill Benjm. Birdsall Thos. Locker And many others. |
| Death | He died on 26 August 1853 at Pelham Township, Welland Co., Canada West, at age 55. |
| Note | This is from a register entitled Pelham Register, Book B, Catalogued as a marriage register, 1807-1906, and includes births and deaths from 1739-1857. From annotations, it is apparently not complete. It is identified as Achives: C-3-54, and held by the Canadian Quaker Archives and Library at Newmarket, Ontario. It is also available at the Archives of Ontario on MS303 reel 42. James and Hannah are still living at the time of the 1851 census (begun in January of 1852). Their ages, supposedly as of their next birthdays, were 54 and 47. They are shown as Quakers. James is a weaver. The register has the following information: James Husband died the 26th of the 8th mo. 1853, age 55 years, 11 months, residence Pelham. This does not tell us where he was buried, though this was probably in the Quaker Hicksite cemetery at Pelham, his gravestone not surviving as of when the Niagara branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society transcribed the cemetery in 1981. This also shows: Hannah Husband died the 30th of the 6th month (June), 1858, aged 53 years 3 months and 20 days. This does not tell where she died or her place of burial, but, again, she is probably buried in the Quaker Hicksite Cemetery in Pelham. |
