Jane Van Every
ID # 7194, (1828-1899)
Birth | Jane Van Every was born in 1828. |
Marriage | She married David Baptie on 24 July 1849 at Gore District. MS248 reel 1, Vol. 4, page 116 Gore District Marriage Register Extracted from a list of marriages solemnized by Rev'd. Smith (Baptist) David Babtie and Jane Van Every, both of Dumfries, on July 24, 1849. Witnesses Charles Van Every and Richard Green. Rev'd. Smith's affiliation, Baptist, is written in, apparently after the fact. This is probably correct, but numbers of records have been annotated like this and care should be taken. David's name is spelled as 'Babtie'. This does crop up, here and there. Jane's first name is written rather poorly, but later census information shows her to be Jane. |
Death | She died on 14 June 1899 at South Dumfries Twp., Brant Co.. |
Burial | She was buried at Old Pioneer Presbyterian Cemetery, St. George, South Dumfries. |
Note | Death reg. 004994-99 South Dumfries Twp., Brant Co. Jane Baptie died June 14th, 1899, age 69. Residence S. Dumfries, 3rd Concession. Relict of David Baptie. Widow. Born S. Dumfries. Presbyterian. Informant J. L. Addison. (J. L. Addison was a local physician.) Note that Jane's death occurred on the 3rd concession of South Dumfries. This was probably in, or very close to, the village of St. George. The 1869-70 gazetteer for Brant County shows a David 'Bastic' on C3-L6. Since there are numbers of others shown on this township lot, this was either in or very near St. George. Certainly, information found on maps locates St. George on this lot. Considering the way the Baptie name was betimes garbled, this is probably David Baptie. Abstract index information for this lot is to be found on onland.ca. The Baptie name hasn't been found up to approximately 1866. It isn't typical for village or town lots to be shown on township abstract index information though there are certainly exceptions. The aforementioned gazetter does place Van Everys in the township. Going by a reference in Warner & Beers 1883 History of the County of Brant, it seems likely that Jane's parents were Andrew Van Every and Nancy Van Sellas. This remains to be researched. |
