Middlesex County Marriage Register

Extracted from a list of marriages solemnized by Rev. Jos. Clutton, a minister of the Baptist Church, North Dorchester, for the year ending 31 December, A. D. 1860

Humphrey Morehouse, 29, born New Brunswick, residing Dorchester. Parents Joshua and Jane Morehouse.
Cynthia Jane Raymond, 22, born Canada West, residing Westminster. Parents Julius and Sarah Raymond.
Witness Miles Hoyt of Dorchester
On March 6, 1860

The Canadian Baptist (formerly the Christian Messenger), published at Toronto, edition of March 15, 1860, somewhat fills out the above, in which the clergyman's name is nearly unreadable, but, repeated a number of times in the periodical, we find his name is Clutton. Cynthia's middle name is Jane, and we also find that the marriage was at the home of the bride's father. Since the bride is said to reside in Westminster (township), we may believe the marriage to have taken place there.

NoteThe marriage of Humphrey and Cynthia was witnessed by a Miles Hoyt. Elsewhere in this tree, the names Hoyt and Raymond are to be found. There is probably a connection, but this has not been investigated.

Humphrey died in 1878. By the time of the 1880 U.S. census, Cynthia, with her younger children, is in Riley, St. Clair Co., Michigan. Her parents and some siblings have been in Riley for a few years.
