NoteThe 1871 census places the birth of Thomas in Westruther, Berwick, Scotland.

A Thomas Delgaty appears in the 1891 census in Stanley Township, Huron County. He is age 21, born in Scotland, and may be the son of William Delgaty and Alison Christison. He is lodging in the home of James Wanless and he is shown as a tailor.

The 1901 census, again in Stanley Township, shows Thomas as married to Elizabeth. This census also tells us that he came to Canada in 1888. (His sister Janet Delgaty is said to have come to Canada in 1883.) This census also provides his date of birth - January 20th, 1869.

Thomas married Elizabeth Nichols in 1893 in Mitchell in Perth County. At the time, he is a tailor and said to be residing in Staffa, a village in Fullarton Township of Perth County. By the time of the 1901 census he is back in Stanley Towship with Elizabeth and five children.

Thomas' middle name is open to some question. See notes under son Lewis.

Thomas' travels in life are rather circular.

He apparently left Scotland and came to Canada in 1888. He was in Stanley Township of Huron County by the time of the 1891 census.

Son James was born in Fullarton Township of Perth County in 1894, but the family was evidently resident in Hibbert Township of Perth at the time.

They were still in Hibbert in 1895 when son Alexander was born.

There were in South Easthope, in Perth County, apparently at the village of Shakespeare, when son Lewis was born in 1896.

Daughter Mary was born in Tuckersmith Township of Huron County in 1898.

The family was in Stanley Township when son William was born in 1901.

The rest of the children were born in Manitoba.

The family was in the MacDonald District of Manitoba by 1906. Elizabeth is found with the children, still in MacDonald, in 1911. Thomas is back and present in the 1916 western census. They are in the South Norfolk Municipality of the MacDonald District in 1921.

The 1945 voters' list places Thomas and Elizabeth in Treherne, Manitoba. Death registrations or places of burial have yet to be found.
