Isabel Thomson
ID # 6494, (1803-1881)
| Baptism | Isabel Thomson was baptized on 28 February 1803 at Upper Canada. |
| Marriage | She married David Thorburn on 29 June 1823. Our source for the marriage date of David Thorburn and Isabella Thomson is The Niagara Papers, Volume 2, The Niagara Gleaner, January 1823 - July 1825, compiled by W. Craig Burtch, Global Heritage Press, 2012, page 4 of this paper's transcriptions, and quoting from the Saturday, May 3, 1823, edition. This tells that on Tuesday, the 29th of the previous month, David Thorburn of Wainfleet wed 'Isable' Thomson of Stamford. They were wed by the Rev. Mr. Wright. |
| Death | She died on 16 November 1881 at Queenston, Niagara Township, Lincoln Co., at age 78. |
| Burial | She was buried at Stamford Presbyterian Cemetery, Stamford Twp.. |
| Note | Isabel Thorburn, the daughter of David and Isabel, married John Symons. Isabel, the mother, appears in the 1881 census in the household immediately following that of the Symons in Yorkville in the Township of East York (now a part of Toronto.) Isabel is with adult daughters and, considering that she died later in 1881, we might be forgiven for believing that she died in Yorkville. A death registration for her has not been found, however, and the biography for John Symons that appears on page 12 of Beers 1907 Commemorative Biographical Record of the County of York, tells that both David and Isabel Thorburn died in Queenston. Certainly, David's gravestone in Stamford Presbyterian Cemetery states that he died in Queenston. Since it is probable that Isabel had family in Queenston, then her place of death as Queenston is recorded here. |
