Parents David Thorburn and Isabel Thomson. Physician D. McGillivray. Informant David T. Symons of 6 Warren Road. Catharine and Mary are buried with their parents in Stamford Presbyterian Cemetery. This is now situated in the City of Niagara Falls. Niagara Falls has a range of photographs of gravestones including that of the Thorburns. The names of Mary and Catharine are inscribed on one side and the inscriptions tells, with the appropriate dates, that they were born in Queenston and died in Toronto. It's probably a quibble, but it may be mentioned here that, technically, Catharine and her sister Mary (and probably several of their siblings) were born in Niagara Township. McGill Library provides digital images of maps of counties and their townships in Southern Ontario. These are taken from an atlas dated 1876. The map for Niagara Township shows the Village of Queenston. Bordering the village, immediately to the west, are two Thorburn properties. One is shown as belonging to the Thorburn Estate, the other, exactly bordering the village as it was set out at the time is a smaller property owned by a D. Thorburn, probably David Thorburn Jr. These two properties appear to straddle the escarpment. |
