Elizabeth Timmins died Feb. 24, 1917, age 85. Born Scotland. Place of death Long Branch, Ontario. Place of burial Ottawa. Widow. Parents Alexander Cruickshanks and Elizabeth MacKenzie. Physician Jno. Sesson. Informant N. A. Craig, 1255 Queen St. West, Toronto. Date of return Feb. 24, 1917. The physician's portion of the return is dated Feb. 25, 1917, and his address is shown as Mimico.

Elizabeth Timmins was with daughter Margaret Cumming and her family in West Toronto as of the 1911 census.

The recording municipality for the above death registration was Etobicoke. Long Branch and Mimico are former municipalities located in the west end of Toronto, as is Etobicoke. N. A. Craig was an undertaker.

What follows is the interment record for Beechwood Cemetery in Ottawa and the burial date might seem a bit startling until we consider that Ottawa is far enough north for frozen earth to be a consideration with interments.

Beechwood does appear to have been in receipt of Elizabeth's remains as of Feby. 26, 1917. The record indicates that she was not buried until June 6, 1917. She was buried with her husband James in section 40, lot 31 E. Pt. The information recorded does show her father as Alexander Cruickshanks, but omits her mother's name. Her former address is shown in Beechwood's records as Long Branch. While the death registration isn't clear, it is possible that she died in hospital.

Elizabeth's death registration is the one document that we have that names her parents, and, for the moment there is little enough other evidence. The 1851 census, begun in January of 1852, shows an Elizabeth Cruikshank, age 19 and born in Scotland, as a servant in the home of John and Barbara Rochester in Nepean Township. The entire household, Elizabeth included, is Wesleyan Methodist. John and Barbara are elderly, and with them, obviously their children, are William, 23, and Margaret, 21.

An examination of the Wesleyan Methodist baptism register shows Rochesters of the Nepean Township/Bytown (Ottawa) area, though none that we can clearly identify with the household of Elizabeth Cruickshank(s). The evidence isn't perfect, but Elizabeth Cruikshank of the Rochester household in the 1851 census is probably the Elizabeth Cruickshanks who married James Timmins. James has yet to be found in this enumeration and as of January of 1852 may not yet have arrived in the Ottawa area.
