Donald McKenzie's work Death Notices from the Christian Guardian, 1836-1850, Global Heritage Press, 2011, page 286 This tells us that Samuel Smith emigrated from Vermont in 1819 and died in Beverly Township of the Gore District in his 50th year. The obituary goes on to say that he is survived by his wife and 11 children. The date of Samuel's passing isn't given, but the date of the publication is September 26, 1838, and appears on page 187. We do not as yet have all the names of the 11 children. A transcription of Samuel's gravestone dates his death to July 31, 1838, and this appears to be the date in the photograph of the stone as shown on Find-a-Grave. |
