Parents John and Susan Pittan. Witnesses Alexander Ironside and Nancy Mulholland, residences not given. On January 1st, 1879, at Lynden, by Rev. Parsons, minister. Mulholland is spelled with two double L's, hence mis-indexing. Mary's name on her gravestone is Pitton. The 1947 History of the People of Troy shows her as Lib Pitton, evidently an abbreviation for Elizabeth. |

Note | The 1871 census shows the household of John Pitton enumerated immediately following that of Hugh Mulholland. Elizabeth Pitton appears with her parents, age 10, in this census. Russel, in the Mulholland household, is shown as age 14. Both families are shown as Episcopal Methodist. Russel and Mary were married in 1879. The 1881 census shows Mary's parents enumerated next to George Clark who was the storekeeper at Troy. As of that date at any rate the Pittons were at Troy. Thomas and his wife Susan are buried in Troy Cemetery. Nancy Thomas, evidently the mother of Susan Thomas Pitton, is with her daughter and son-in-law in Beverly at the time of the 1891 census. She and her husband are also buried in Troy Cemetery. The transcription shows them as John Thomas and Nancy Marlatt. |
