Note | As the marriage registration for John and Isabella shows, John Wesley Oakley was a dentist. A brief biography (brief, considering that John was still a very young man) appears in the 1891 The Canadian Album of Men of Canada, Vol. 1, Rev. William Cochrane, Bradley, Garretson & Co., Brantford, on page 82. This mentions his recent marriage to Bella M. Hay on September 16, 1890, and provides a summary of his schooling as well as a photograph. The biography tells that he is a member of the Queen Street Methodist Church in Toronto, which is of mild interest if for no other reason that the biography for his brother-in-law, Stephen Moffat Hay, in this same volume (page 48), tells that Stephen attended this church as well. The above referred biography no doubt predated the tragedy that befell John and Isabella. Refer to notes under Isabella. |
