Note | As of the 1857 baptism of son Alexander, David and Elizabeth are located in Wilmot Township in Waterloo County. They are still there as of the 1861 census. David is shown as a farmer and a member of the U. Presbyterian Church, N. Dumfries (Galt). By 1871, the family is located in Elora where David is shown as an iron founder. Death reg. 030786-09 Elora, Wellington Co. David Morrison Potter died Feb. 12, 1909, at Elora. Age 83 yrs., 2 mos., 23 dys. Born November 20, 1825, at Cambridge, New York State. Gentleman. Married. Parents Parents David Potter, born Ennoe, Perthshire, Scotland, and Catharine Connel, born Kippen, Scotland. Physician Wm. Robertson. Informant John L. Potter, Elora. This is a rather more informative death registration for the era than most. It does omit his place of burial, but a transcription of Elora Municipal Cemetery places him there with his wife Elizabeth. The 1901 census says that David came to Canada from the U.S. in 1843. |
