Note | David's name appears in the 1871 census taken at Elora. According to U.S. census information, David went to work in the United States in either 1875 or 1876. We first find him in the 1880 census taken at Detroit where he is lodging in a hotel and is shown as a telegraph operator. In both the 1900 and 1910 census taken at Emporia in Lyon County, Kansas, he operates a livery stable. David was consistent with the information that he gave for his background. He shows himself as born in Canada (the 1880 census shows Ontario), and in all census information he shows his father as being born in New York State and his mother as born in Canada. Such birth information as we have for the family is taken from the 1900 census. The 1910 census shows Frances as spelled with an I, but as she is shown as a daughter this tree shows her a Frances with an E. By the time of the 1920 census, Nancy is still in Lyon County, Kansas, with daughters Elizabeth and Frances, both shown as teachers, but Nancy is a widow. Information for the dates of death and places of burial for David and Nancy are thanks to postings on Find-a-Grave. |
