Informant John Harvie, farmer, North Dumfries. Registered 26 March, 1874. Physician none. Note that this is an 1870 birth registered in 1874. At the bottom of the registration is the following note: This and the following was sent to me after the notice on announcement schedule. The note is smeared to a small degree and the word 'announcement' is questionable. The last word schedule may be in the plural - schedules. The words 'the following' in the note refer to the next two birth registrations as filed by John Harvie on the same day as that of James. They are for daughters Ellen Jane and Abigail Lavell. They have note to refer back to James' registration as to 'why so late.' What an 'announcement schedule' might be isn't at all clear. James, age 1, is with his parents at the time of the 1871 census. He is not, however, with the family in the 1881 or 1891 censuses. This would imply that he is deceased, but a death registration has not been found and he is not shown in the family plot in Mountview Cemetery. |
