In 1881, Francis and Harriet are in Wingham, Huron County. Francis is shown as a tanner. (This would be easy to read as 'farmer', but a careful examination of the handwriting shows his occupation as 'tanner'.) They have with them two children.

At the end of 1881, Francis John Carrick reported the death of daughter Isabella and the birth of Agatha. These are the last two records found that record a living Francis John Carrick. In the 1891 census, Harriet Piper Carrick is shown as married on the census form in Turnberry Township, Huron County. She appears likewise in the 1901 census at Wingham. When son Thomas married in 1910, he described his father as a farmer; when daughter Agatha married in 1911, she described her father as a miner.
