Brant County

Extracted from a list of marriages solemnized by Rev. David Caw, United Presbyterian Church, Paris, for the year ending December 31st, 1858

Robert Hunter 26, born Scotland, residing Blandfad (Blandford). Parents Richard Hunter and Agnes Sharp.
Rebecca Colvin, 20, born and residing South Dumfries. Parents Andrew Colvin and Agnes Law.
Witness Andrew Colvin Jr., Dumfries
On April 9, 1858

See microfilm N 84 reel 2P, Brantford Expositor, April 16, 1858, page 3. A brief marriage notice appears. It adds little to the above, but it does say that the marriage was performed at the house of the bride's father. Since the marriage registration seems to place the wedding in Paris it would be tempting to say that the family lived there, however we know that the family lived from 1835 at C3-L29. The marriage almost certainly took place in South Dumfries Township.

NoteRobert and Rebecca Hunter appear with daughter Agnes, age 2, in the 1861 census taken at Blandford Township in Oxford County. With them is Rebecca's brother James Colvin, blacksmith, said to be residing in the United States.

We find a record for Maggie Hunter in the will of Agnes Low Colvin (see microfilm reel GS1-reel 40, Middlesex Surrogate Court, nbr 3617). Agnes died December 31, 1888, and in her will leaves to grandaughter Maggie Hunter her feather bed. It seems reasonable that the recipient of an object of some bulk would be living close to hand. No record to this point, however, has been found in Canadian or American census information for Rebecca, Robert, or any children they might have had. No records of death or burial have been found for Robert or Rebecca and no marriage or death registrations have been found for Margaret.
