Extracted from Return of Marriages Solemnized by Rev. Thos. L. Davidson, M.A., a minister of the Baptist Denomination for the year ending Dec. 31st, 11862, A.D.

George N. Currey, 30, born Grantham, Lincoln Co. residing Blenheim. Parents David and Hannah Currey.
Susan E. Wilber, 22, born and residing South Dumfries. Parents Jeremiah and Susan Wilber.
Witnesses Charles P. Bell of St. George and Martha Kitchen of Grimsby.
On July 2nd, 1862.

Martha Kitchen of Grimsby, age 18, appears with the Susan Wilber household in South Dumfries in the 1861 census. (A Jacob Kitchen of Grimsby is also present. His age is shown as 61. He is probably Susan Kitchen Wilber's brother.)

The county marriage registration do not typically provide the exact location of a marriage. We would normally guess that this marriage was held in either South Dumfries Township, or, more specifically, in
St. George. In this case, we have more information.

The Hamilton Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society has transcriptions of the Canadian Baptist. The issue of July 17, 1862, informs us that George N. Currey, 4th son of Rev. David Currey, married Susan C. Wilber at the residence of the bride's mother near St. George on the 2nd of the same month. Census information locates Susan Wilber, the bride's mother, in South Dumfries Township.

Interestingly, another volume from these transcriptions shows another Currey-Wilber marriage on New Year's Day 1866, by the same clergyman. This marriage was that of Samuel Currey of Wolverton, the youngest son of Rev. Currey. The bride was Mary A. Wilber of South Dumfries. Her parentage is given as William and Maria, and who they were is still subject to research.

DeathShe died on 13 June 1915 at Granger, Yakima, Washington State, at age 75.
BurialShe was buried at Zillah Cemetery, Zillah, Yakima Co., Washington.
NoteSusan was with her mother in South Dumfries at the time of the 1861 census.

Susan and her husband George Currey were in Blenheim Township at the time of the 1871 census. Five children are with them.

As of 1881, they are still in Blenheim and with them are eight children. Considering the associated names on the census page, they were either in or near the village of Wolverton.

By 1886, George is dead and buried in Wolverton Cemetery.

Susan is still in Blenheim in 1891 with five of her children. She states that her father was born in New York. In 1901, she is still in Blenheim with daughter Carrie and son Blake.

In 1911, she is in Blenheim with daughter Carrie who is married to Charlie Rathbun.

In 1912, Susan with her daughter Carrie's family cross the border into the United States at Port Huron, Michigan. They show their previous address as Drumbo and state that they are headed for Outlook, Washington. She gives her place of birth as 'Dunfries' (Dumfries).

She died on 13 June, 1915, in Granger, Yakima County, Washington, and is buried in Zillah Cemetery. Find-a-Grave has a photo of her gravestone.
