Frances Arvilla Coleman
ID # 3656, (1843-1925)
Father | William Hayes Coleman (1810-1897) |
Mother | Elizabeth Cope (1808-1884) |
Birth | Frances Arvilla Coleman was born on 15 November 1843. |
Marriage | She married John Adams on 20 May 1889 at Melbourne, Ekfrid Twp., Middlesex Co.. Arvilla seems to have married late. John Adams was apparently a widower with a number of children. The family does appear in later years in Ekfrid Township. The Ekfrid Township clerk seems to have had difficulty with the handwriting of the minister, but this does appear to be the marriage registration for Arvilla and John. Mrge reg. 007972-89 Ekfrid Twp., Middlesex Co. John Adams, age 46, residence Ekfrid, place of birth Westminster, widower, farmer, parents William and Mary Jane Adams; Anabella Coleman, age 44, residence and place of birth Caradoc, spinster, parents William and Elizabeth Coleman, witnesses Mr. and Mrs...the surname appears to be something like Quail and Miss N.W. Locke. Both are said to be Methodists. The minister was H.W. Locke. |
Death | She died on 9 November 1925 at Lot 20, Con. 5, Caradoc Twp., at age 81. |
Burial | She was buried at Mt. Brydges United Church Cemetery. |
Note | This information is taken from a transcription of Mt. Brydges Cemetery, MS451 reel 32. If John is buried with Arville, there is no transcription to show it. Arvilla is buried with a Mabel Adams and her husband Franklin Welch. The logical conclusion, viewing the 1911 census for Arvilla and her husband John at Ekfrid Township in the 1911 census, plus difficult transcriptions from earlier census years, is that Arvilla's first name was Frances and it is shown so here in this tree. Arvilla's death registration is 021680-25. Her name is given as Frances Arvilla. She is said to have died November 9, 1925. This is at some variance with her gravestone which says November 5. The registration also gives her birthdate as November 15, 1843, and so this has been entered here. The information was an Ebenezer Adams of Mt. Brydges, Ontario, 'husband to niece'. Who this niece might be is still being researched, however it seems likely that she is Elizabeth, daughter of Margaret Euphrasia Coleman Thomas. It looks as though her full name was Elizabeth Arvilla. Ebenezer and Arvilla E. Thomas are buried together at Mt. Brydges Cemetery and Arvilla Coleman Adams is buried with them. The evidence is that that her husband, John Adams, was previously married to a Sarah A., 1851-1885. He is buried with her at Longwoods Cemetery along with sons Reuben (1876-1892) and Charles (1880-1956). This is per a transcription from the Longwoods Cemetery transcription, MS451 reel 42, page 11. At the time of the 1891 census, the family is at Ekfrid Township in Middlesex County (T-6353, B1-page 22). With them are children George W., age 18; Reuben, age 15; Alfred, age 13; Charles, age 11. These are apparently all children of John's first wife Sarah. Only Charles is with them at the time of the 1901 census. |
