Dustan Wells Misener
ID # 3573, (1840-1923)
Father | Conrad Misener (1803-1882) |
Mother | Elizabeth Wells (1812-1885) |
Birth | Dustan Wells Misener was born in 1840 at Beverly Township. |
Marriage | He married Nancy J. Stenabaugh on 7 September 1864 at Brant County. MS248 reel 5, Vol. 1, page 152, Brant County Return of marriages solemnized by me a minister of the Methodist E. Church in Canada for the year ending 31st day of December A.D. 1864 (This marriage is extracted from a list of 8.) Dustan W. Misener, 24, born and residing Beverly. Parents Conrad and Eliz'th Misener. Nancy J. Stenabaugh, 19, born Beverly, residing Townsend. Parents Joseph and Mary Stenabaugh. Witnesses Nicholas Misener, Beverly; Levy M. Gordon, Willowby. On Sept 7, 1864 Signed by S. Terwiliger at Oakland, Jan. 18, 1865. The residences of the contracting parties as well as those of the witnesses are so diverse, most of them being outside of Brant County, that it's entirely possible that Rev. Terwilliger traveled and that the Misener Stenabaugh marriage was performed outside of Brant County. In any event, typically, the marriage registrations from this era do not show the place of marriage. |
Death | He died on 16 December 1923 at Los Angeles County. |
Burial | He was buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale, Los Angeles, California.. |
Note | Dustan Wells Misener appears with his parents in the 1861 census in Beverly Township. There, he is age 21 and shown as a schoolmaster. (Dustan gets the briefest of mentions in a list of the children - 7 shown - of Conrad Misener and Elizabeth Wells as presented in the 1947 booklet, A History of the People of Troy.) There is some evidence that he was a clerk in the post office, apparently working for Alex McRoberts. By the time of the 1871 census, he is married to Nancy J. Stenabaugh and they are located in Grimsby, Ontario, where he is shown as a clergyman and apparently associated with the Episcopal Methodists. Later U.S. census information shows the arrival of Dustan and Nancy in the U.S. in 1875. Certainly, in 1880, they are in Negaunee, Marquette, Michigan, where Dustan is a Methodist minister By 1900, they are in Wapello, Iowa, and Dustan is shown as a preacher. By 1910, the couple are in Los Angeles where he shown as a grocer with his own store. By 1920 and still in Los Angeles, Dustan is apparently retired. He died in 1923 and Nancy in 1928. Find-a-Grave provides us with dates of death and place of burial for Dustan and Nancy. A California death index also shows dates of death for both Dustan and Nancy. This also includes county codes for the places of death. An index for these codes indicates that Dustan died in Los Angeles County and that Nancy died in Orange County. |
