NoteWe are favoured with a book about Robert Corson that was written in 1879 by Rev. John Carroll, most of it dealing with his contribution to Methodism in Canada. It is entitled Father Corson, or The Old Style Canadian Itinerant, Embracing the Life and Gospel Labours, Fifty-Six Years a Minister in Connection With the Central Methodism of Upper Canada. Page 1 begins with his origins, events before his conversion, and is headed 1793 - 1817.

His birth is placed in the Niagara District on 12 September, 1793, in Clinton Township in the Niagara District. His parents are named: Daniel Corson and Rebecca Lawrison. This information is attributed to Robert Corson's son, Dr. John Wesley Corson. Soon enough, the narrative mentions Robert's sister, Mrs. Mercy Force, and his brother Lawrence.

A comment on page 15 of this book is interesting, and here Carroll quotes Dr. J.W. Corson.

'Daniel Corson was born in Sussex County, New Jersey, some twelve years before the commencement of the War of the Revolution.

'A few years after the conclusion of the peace, our paternal grandfather, whose name we have given, attracted by liberal grants of land, came to a beautiful farm on the Canadian side of the Niagara River. He came at about the same time with the Howells of the 'Jersey Settlement,' the Aikmans, the Colemans, the Lawrasons, the Hamills, and many other names, since distinguished in the history of Canada. The Ryersons as U.E. Loyalists removed at an earlier day. Here the subject of this memoir, Robert Corson, was born.
