BirthCatherine Young was born in September 1866 at Canada.
MarriageShe married David Allan Hunt, son of James Stinson Hunt and Ruth Able, on 31 October 1885 at Saugeen, Bruce Co.
Mrge reg. 001668-85 Township of Saugeen, Bruce Co.
David A. Hunt, 22, bachelor, blacksmith. Methodist. Born Canada, residing Aberdour, Saugeen. Parents James Hunt and Ruth Abell.
Catherine Young, 19, spinster, Mennonite. Born Canada, residing Saugeen. Parents Adam Young and Barbara Gobel.
Witnesses John Hunt, Saugeen and Cecilia Hunt, Derby.
On October 21st, 1885, at Saugeen, by Rev. J. G... illeg.

The place of marriage, Saugeen, as shown, probably referred to the township. Saugeen was also the name of the town that became Southampton, though not until 1890, at least so far as a post office name was concerned. Bruce County marriage registrations datelined Southampton do exist at least as early as 1885. Aberdour, perhaps not much larger than a corners, had a post office from 1875 to 1915. It does not now appear to be found on a present day map of Ontario, though it does appear on an antique map of Saugeen Township as provided by McGill University of Montreal.

MarriageShe married Descomb Baker Whitehead on 20 September 1928 at Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Manitoba Vital Statistics, index only, tells the following:

Catherine Hunt married Descomb Baker Whitehead on 20 September, 1928, at Winnipeg. Index for this marriage 1928-043240.

MarriageShe married William G. Freeborn on 26 October 1939 at Coldwell, Manitoba.
Manitoba Vital Statistics lists a marriage for William G. Freeborn and Catherine Whitehead dated 26 October, 1939, at Coldwell. This is probably a Regional Municipality and not the exact village or town of the marriage. The registration number is shown as 1939-043733.

DeathShe died in 1962.
BurialShe was buried at Lundar Municipal Cemetery, Lundar, Manitoba..
NoteInitially, some years ago, when Catherine was entered into the tree as David's wife, her background was not closely examined. When she married David, the marriage registration showed her parents as Adam Young and Barbara Gobel. Her family name, Young, was originally Jung. A family member drew this to my attention and, upon examination of the 1861 and 1871 censuses in Normanby Township of Grey County, Jung is certainly the correct interpretation.

By the time of the 1881 census, the family is in Saugeen Township of Bruce County and their name is certainly rendered as Young. Adam and Barbara are buried in Sanctuary Park Cemetery in Port Elgin. The Bruce-Grey Counties branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society provides a transcription of this cemetery and Adam and Barbara's inscription is recorded thus:

Adam Young Jun 10 1892, 57 yrs 8 ms, wife Barbara Gabel Apr 8 1926, 81 ys

The 1871 census in Normanby Township of Grey County shows Catherine with her parents. Her name is rendered as Katharina and her age is 4. The family is shown as Lutheran as are most of their neighbours.

The 1881 census in Saugeen Township of Bruce County shows Catherine as Catherina, age 14. Here, the family is shown as Baptist.

The 1891 census also shows Catherine with David in Port Elgin. They have three sons: John, age 4; Fred, age 3; and Wesley, age 9 months.

Catherine and David are in Pine Grove, Dekalb County, Alabama, as of the 1900 U. S. census. She and David are said to have been married 14 years; she has had five children of whom five are living. The added children present are Mabel, born Michigan, and Henry, born Alabama.

By the time of the 1910 U.S. census, the family is in Eldred Township, Cass County, North Dakota. They have added Josephine to the family. She is shown as age 8 and born in Alabama.

By the time of the 1921 census, Catherine and David are in Shenston, Chapple Township, Rainy River District, Ontario. David died their in 1924 and is buried in Stratton Cemetery, Chapple Township. It is understood that at some point Catherine went on to Manitoba and that she married twice again.

For Catherine's Manitoba marriages, I am guided by Rev. Osmundson's tree, Find-a-Grave, and the website for Manitoba Vital Statics.

Marriage nbr. 2.

Catherine Hunt married Descomb Baker Whitehead on 20 September, 1928, at
Winnipeg. The Manitoba Vital Statistics website indexes this marriage as 1928-043240. Beyond this information, the Vital Statistics site is uninformative, but Descomb is shown by Find-a-Grave as being buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Winnipeg, and his date of death is shown as 4 October, 1938. This agrees with the index of his death on Manitoba Vital Statistics. The index nbr. is 1938-040141.

Marriage nbr. 3.

Catherine married a third time, on 26 October, 1939, to a William G. Freeborn, 1863-1958. Manitoba Vital Statistics shows this under registration nbr. 1939-043733. Catherine and William are buried in Lundar Municipal Cemetery, Lundar, Manitoba. William died in 1958 and Catherine died in 1962. This per Find-a-Grave.
