| Note | Certain background information for William G. Freeborn has yet to be found. The name, William Freeborn, was slightly more common than expected. The 1921 census has a William G. Freeborn with wife Lizzie in West Kildonan, Selkirk, Manitoba, as of the 1921 census. This William is shown as age 62. This would approximate his year of birth to 1864, which is perhaps close enough. A problem with this is that there is a William Freeborn with wife Laura at Eriksdale, in the Portage la Prairie electoral district. His age is shown as 62, which gets us at least into the ballpark of William's birth year, if indeed his year of birth as it appears on his gravestone (see below) is correct. These two censuses show William Freeborn as being born in Ontario and with both parents born in Ireland. He is possibly the same person, but...that's a guess. Looking over the William Freeborns in the 1871 census in Ontario is no help. Some at least can be traced to burials in Ontario cemeteries. Ordering of the marriage record of William and Catherine would be a solution, if indeed his parentage is given. Per Find-a-Grave, William G. Freeborn died in 1958. CanGenWeb has a photograph of his and Catherine's gravestone. This dates his year of birth to 1863. |
