| Note | From the Orlo Miller index of Nash-Lockwood Cemetery: Vrooman, Catherine, wife of David Vrooman, b. 13 Feb. 1835, d. 19 Nov. 1869. We know of Catherine's maiden name from the death registration of daughter Caroline in 1917. Birth and death information is per the dates on her stone in Nash-Lockwood Cemetery, now broken and worn, as written in an index done by Orlo Miller. This is undated, but was done many years ago. A transcription done in 1982 provides some confirmation. The 1982 transcription does show her death year as 1860, however given the birth years of her children, we may take 1869 as the year of her death. The Middlesex County Branch of the OGS made a further effort with the Nash-Lockwood Cemetery in April of 2010. The stones were little more than a pile of rubble, but an effort was made to piece some of them together. There was little luck, but Catherine's stone had one clean break through the centre and a photograph appears with this recent transcription. When the researchers were done, they returned the rubble to the way it was when they found it. The 1851 census in Caradoc Township shows a Kathrine Fisher, age 17. Spellings are idiosyncratic and the handwriting is difficult to read, but a sister Caroline, or 'Carline', is shown and Catherine's apparently eldest daughter, per the 1871 census in Strathroy, is named Caroline. In the 1851 Caradoc census, Catherine's mother is shown as Widow Fisher and, of course, no father is shown. |
