Chisholm and John Fletcher, both of Erin. Clergyman Rev. Donald Strachan. The groom was Methodist and the bride Roman Catholic. The marriage took place on July 8, 1875. |
| Note | At the time of the 1880 census, James, Mary and Ada were in Big Prairie, Newaygo Co., Michigan. Margaret Smith, wife of William Smith, appears as being enumerated immediately prior to the Vroomans. Margaret will be James Samuel Vrooman's sister. Her husband William is almost certainly the William Smith who appears in Beverly as the son of Milo Smith. Milo was married to Lany Main, the sister of George Main Sr. They were the children of Philip Main. Milo Smith, at some level, will have been a cousin to Samuel Wilson Cowden Smith, the father of Eliza Smith, James Vrooman's wife, and the mother of Margaret and James Samuel. At a guess, Margaret married a second cousin when she married William Smith. For the moment, the list of four children shown for James and Mary will be incomplete. For example, Familysearch.org provides us with two transcriptions for marriages for daughters of James and Mary. An Eliza Marie Vrooman married in 1903 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, and an Alice May Vrooman married in Toronto in 1906. They show their mother's name as Mary Ellen Connor, or Mary E. Connor. It does appear that James and Mary followed the family migration to Newaygo County, Michigan, and they were there for at least a time around 1880. They evidently returned to Canada at some point. |
