NoteJames spelled his surname as Personne for his marriage registration. The birth registration for his daughter Maud shows his name as Personne.

With the birth of James' son William Charles Person in 1873, we find him using the spelling Person. It is also the first record of him using his middle initial of C. Later, we find in Maud's apparent second marriage that his full name is given as James Coleman Person.

James, along with brother Charles, is in the home of Frederick and Harriet Blain in Puslinch Township at the time of the 1861 census. Such information as we have suggests that Harriet Blain's maiden name was Morrison and that she was a sister of Arabella's.

After the 1861 census, we do not find James in records again until his marriage in Puslinch in 1870. He appears with Mary in the 1871 census at Puslinch and their first born, Maud, is born in Puslinch. After that, for some years, it is apparent that the family spent some time in Nassagaweya Township in Halton County, based on birth registrations for their children.

In later years, James was in Guelph and Hamilton and still later in California. A descendant provides the date and place of James' death.

The 1891 census taken at Guelph shows in the James Person household a daughter, F. Henrietta, age a year and a half. Her age and approximate birth place her within the child carrying age of Mary Fraser Person, however it seems likely that she is a child who was present in the household at the time the enumerator called. Perhaps there was a temporary fostering arrangement. James and Mary were assiduous in registering the births and deaths of their children. Further, a descendant has provided a bible page with names of the children and dates of birth as well as a death page from the same bible. Henrietta's name does not appear.
