Note | When Jennie Baldwin Garrett married Charles Main in 1916 the witnesses were shown as Edward W. Williams and Millie M. Williams, both of Grant, Michigan. At the time of the 1920 census in Ashland, Newaygo Co., Michigan, we find an Ellwood W. Williams and wife Millie M. with their children. Also present is mother-in-law Jennie Garrett, age 60, a widow, and born in New York. It would appear that by 1920, Charles and Jennie are separated. It's evident from the marriage information of their children as well as the 1880 census, that Jennie's first husband was Nathan C. Heffron. They were evidently married in New York State and their first two children were born there. We do not have a death or burial record for Nathan, but we find that Jennie married J.B. Garrett on September 30, 1900, in Ashland, Michigan. The marriage was registered in Montcalm County. By the 1910 census, Jennie is shown as Jennie Garrett, widow, living with a Heffron son (first name illeg.) in Garfield, Mackinac, Michigan. |
