ID # 1199, (1840-)
Birth | Roxy L. Smith was born on 22 December 1840 at Woolwich Twp., Wellington District. |
Marriage | She married Henry Main, son of George Main and Margaret Ann Chandler, on 10 April 1861 at Waterloo County. MS248 reel 16, Vol. 75, page 67 Waterloo County Marriage Register Extracted from a list of marriages solemnized by Charles E. Price and Samuel L. Downey, Ministers of the United Brethren in Christ, for the year ending 31st day of December, A.D. 1861. (The list was certified by Samuel L. Downey) Henry Main, 22, born and residing Beverly. Parents George and Margaret A. Roxy L. Smith, 20, born and residing Woolwich. Parents Thomas & Sarah Ann. Witnesses Harriet Woodward and Sydney Senoth (or Sinoth), both of Woolwich. On April 10, 1861. The couple may have been married by either of the above mentioned clergymen. Since the list was certified by Samuel Downley (date not given, but probably in January of 1862), Henry and Roxy, being the first in the list, were rather more likely to have been married by Charles Price. The United Brethren had a congregation in Waterloo Township. It isn't clear if they had one in Woolwich Township. They did have one at Sheffield in Beverly Township and it was probably through the church that Henry and Roxy met. |
Note | According to Henry Main's biography in the 1884 Mecosta book, Roxy's parents were Thomas Smith and Sarah A. Hartwell. |
