Ann Newels
ID # 1046, (1830-1898)
Birth | Ann Newels was born in 1830 at England. |
Marriage | She married John Barlow in June 1852 at Glanford Brigg, Lincolnshire, England. The marriage registration for John and Ann has not, to this point, been sought. The information is based on the marriage index. When the search was made for John Barlow there were many to examine, but none fit the bill. An index reference was found for Ann Newels and when volume and page were checked it was found that she had married a John Barley. This is almost certainly John Barlow. The thought comes to mind that this is a transcription error, however it seems not. Notes in this regard appear under John's name. |
Death | She died on 2 May 1898. |
Burial | She was buried at Mountview Cemetery, Galt. |
Note | Ann Newels' family was from Broughton in Lincolnshire. Our first record of Ann is in the 1841 census at Broughton, Lincs., where she is age 10. She has a sister Elizabeth, age 9. They are with their father, John Newels, age 50, a laborer born in Lincolnshire. Also in the household are Thomas 'Neul', age 70 and his wife Ann, age 65, both born in Lincolnshire. In 1851, Ann is working as a servant in the house of William Brocklesby, a farmer of 158 acres. Ann is shown as 23 and born in Broughton. Broughton is not far from Glanford Brigg where Ann married John 'Barley'. This is also near Whitton, Lincs., where John Barley was with his parents in 1851. |
