The following death notice appeared in the Toronto Daily Star, Friday, May 10, 1907, page 5. Habkirk - In Tilsonburg, on the 7th of May, at her daughter's residence, Mrs. Dykeman, Jean Johnstone, beloved wife of Robert Habkirk, aged 76 years 4 months. Funeral on Friday at 2 p.m., from her daughter's residence, Mrs. Murray, 1402 Brunswick Ave. The following death registration was entered by the registrar at Tillsonburg on May 8, 1907. The surname is wrong, though close, and a bit of guessing here, but it's probably Jane's death registration: Death reg. 023047-07 Tillsonburg, Oxford Co. Jean Hadkins died May 7, 1907, age 76 years. Housewife. Married. Presbyterian. Born Dumfries, Scotland. Physician Dr. Lancaster. Informant J. R. Lancaster. Cause of death Cerebral Haemorrhage. The only inconsistency in the above says that the husband was dead. It is possible that the wording on the form made the informant believe that it was Jane's/Jean's father that was being referred to. Indexing has been checked for the Tillsonburg Cemeteries and a Hadkins does not appear. Past that, it does appear that the death registration is indeed for Jane, for the burial record on the Prospect Cemetery's 1907 page reads as follows: Jean Habkirk, age 76. Born Scotland. Died Tillsonburg on May 7, 1907. Buried May 10, 1907. Cause of death Cerebral Haemorrhage. Buried Section 12, lot 661 South 1/2. Lot owned by Robert Habkirk. Physician J. R. Lancaster (the same Tillsonburg doctor who attended Jean and who filed her death registration). The minister officiating was A. Gilray. So, with the attending physician's name being the same and the cause of death the same, we must believe that the above death registration is indeed for Robert's wife Jane, sometimes rendered as Jean. |
