NoteRobert and Jane Habkirk are to be found in the 1851 census enumerated for the townships of McKillop and Grey. It does appear that they were actually in McKillop Township. Robert is shown as a carpenter, age 25, and Jane is shown as age 20. With them is shown daughter 'Janett', age 2. Robert and Jane are shown as being born in Scotland; Janett is shown as being born in Canada.

(Huron District marriage records indicate that there were Habkirks in McKillop at least as early as 1846.)

The 1861 census has the Habkirks in McKillop. Robert is still shown as a carpenter. With them are children Isabella, age 11; Jennett, 9; Jennie, 6; William 3; Grace, 1.

The family is present in McKillop at the time of the 1871 census. Added to the family are Margaret, 5, and Robert, 3. (There was evidently an error here, for it does appear that Robert was older than Margaret.)

The 1881 census has the family in the Town of Wingham. Robert is still shown as a carpenter. Now with them are children Ellen (Helen), Annie, Mary, and Ida.

The 1891 census has Robert and his wife in St. Patricks Ward of Toronto West. With them are daughters Annie and Mollie(?).

When the Robert Habkirk family was enumerated in the 1901 census, daughters Margaret, Helen, Mary, and Ida, were still with their parents. Dates of birth were entered on the form and these mostly, Mary excepted, are entered here. Helen's birth registration agrees with the information on the 1901 census.
