     Lawrence Joseph Joyce was born on 9 July 1894.1,2 He was the son of Thomas Lawrence Joyce and Mary Regan.1 He was baptized on 22 July 1894 in St Barnaby's Church, Brewer's Mills, Frontenac County, Ontario.3 He signed his attestation papers for the Canadian Expeditionary Force on 27 October 1915 in Kingston, Frontenac County, Ontario. He indicated that he was a Roman Catholic, a plumber, and was married to Eva Joyce. He was demobilized on 21 Jun 1919.4 On 14 September 1919 Lawrence travelled to Detroit, Michigan. He was accompanied by his wife Eva. They indicated that they intended to remain in the USA.5 They appear on the 1920 census of Detroit, living in the same house as Eva's sister's family. It's not clear how long they actually stayed there or what became of Eva, but Lawrence was living in Toronto, ON when he married again in 1924. He married Emma Lillian Roberts on 14 August 1924 in St Cuthberts Church, Toronto, York County, Ontario.6
