FatherJames H. Dickson (1801-1896)
MotherHannah Murdoch (1799-1883)
BirthJohn Dickson was born on 16 June 1840 at Lasswade, Midlothian, Scotland.
MarriageHe married Harriet Worthington on 8 July 1869 at Toronto, York Co..
Mrge reg. York Co.
John Dickson, 26, bachelor, train baggageman, Presbyterian. Born Scotland, residing Toronto. Parents James Dixon and Hannah Murdoch.
Harriet Worthington, 24, spinster, Presbyterian. Born Osnabruck (Township), Stormont Co. Residing Toronto. Parents Jno. Worthington and Lucinda Gibson.
Witnesses Alex Stewart and Catherine Mosgrave, both of Toronto.
On July 8th, 1869, by Rev. J. W. Hunter, 39-1/2 Esther St. West.

The exact location of the marriage is not stated on this form. The old County Marriage Registers had only been done by days and these usually did not state the exact place of marriage. At this time, these forms were apparently still submitted to a county marriage registrar, in this case the registrar was in York County. Later, they would have been submitted to a city registrar in, say, Toronto.

Considering that everyone's residence is stated as being Toronto, it seems reasonable to believe that the marriage was held in Toronto.

MarriageHe married Joanna Hardy on 10 April 1890 at Galt, Waterloo Co., Ontario.
Mrge reg. 012393-90 Galt, Waterloo Co.
Jhn. M. Dickson, 46, widower, railway employee, Presbyterian. Born Scotland, residing Township of Nelson. Parents James and Hannah Dickson.
Laura Hardy, 38, spinster, Church of England. Born England, residing Galt. Parents Robert and Sarah Hardy.
The names of the witnesses, both of Galt, are poorly written. The last name of the first shown witness appears to be Bowman. The first name of the second witness is Mary.
On 10th April, 1890, at Galt, by Rev'd John Ridley.

The handwriting on the above form is difficult to put it mildy. The bride's name, shown here as Laura Hardy, appears to be as written on the form, though a close examination makes it questionable. Her gravestone in Mountview Cemetery has been transcribed by the Waterloo branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society and this tells us that her name appears on the stone as Joanna.

This tree shows her as Joanna.

DeathHe died on 29 April 1932 at Galt, Wateroo Co., Ontario, at age 91.
BurialHe was buried on 2 May 1932 at Mountview Cemetery, Galt, Ontario.
NoteThe 1851 Scottish census has it that John Dickson was born in Lasswade, Midlothian.
