Alexander Wilson

ID # 9964, (1827-1903)
FatherRobert Lundie Wilson (1802-1875)
MotherMary Crow (1795-1875)
BirthAlexander Wilson was born in 1827 at Scotland.
MarriageHe married Agnes Brown on 22 January 1847 at Gore District.
Alexander Wilson and Agnes Brown were married by license by Rev Strang who was the minister at First Church in Galt. Two sources for this are to be found. The more clearly readable is a transcription of the Gore District Marriage Register. This was compiled by Dan Walker & Fawne Stratford-Devai as The Marriage Registers of Upper Canada/Canada West, Vol. 13, Gore District, 1842-1856, and published by Global Heritage Press in 2013 in Milton (now of Ottawa). This record is to be found under Rev. James Strang's marriages on page 58 of this publication. It reads:

Alex'r Willson to Agness Brown, both of Dumfries, 22 January, 1947, by licence. Rev. Strang. Wit. James Willson and John Brown.

This is probably obtainable from the archives of the United Church of Canada, but is also available from the Archives of Ontario on microfilm reel GS2987. These images of Rev. Strang's marriages are numbered and the image number for this marriage is 238. (The handwriting is difficult and numbers of these pages are faintly reproduced.)

It's entirely possible that Rev. Strang performed the marriage at the home of the bride, or she and Alexander may have visited the parsonage and the marriage was performed there. Since family members (the witnesses) were in attendance, it's rather a better guess that the marriage was at the home of the bride's family.

DeathHe died on 5 November 1903.
BurialHe was buried at Cedar Creek Cemetery, North Dumfries Township.
