| Note | Alexander and Sarah Ellen Ferguson were married in Brantford in 1870. The 1871 Canadian census has them in Onondaga Township, Brant County. The 1881 Canadian census has them in Huron Township of Bruce County and shows them to have two daughters, Stella and Mary Margaret, 9 and 8, and both born in the U.S. Stella's marriage registration places her birth in Nevada. Interestingly, the 1880 U.S. census does record the family as being in Silver City, Lyon County, Nevada. Here, Stella and Mary M., ages 8 and 7, are both shown as being born in Nevada. In Silver City, Alex is recorded as a laborer, but just how he was employed isn't shown. The 1880 Silver City page does indicate that mining was a source of employment and this may have been how Alex made a living. The Canadian 1881 page for Bruce County shows Alex as a farmer. We do not know the number of years the family spent in Nevada or what (or who) took them there. Death reg. 011231-19 Kincardine Township, Bruce Co.
