| Note | The 1871 census shows Stella's parents, Alexander and Sarah Ellen Ferguson, as being in Onondaga Township, Brant County. The 1881 thru 1901 censuses shows Alex and Sarah Ellen as being in Huron Township of Bruce County. The 1881 census shows daughters Stella and Mary Margaret as being with them and both are shown as being born in the United States. We must believe that the family had only just returned to Canada, for the 1880 United States census shows the family in Silver City, Lyon County, Nevada. Therein, Stella is shown as age 8 and Mary M. as age 7, and both are shown as being born in Nevada. The 1901 Canadian census has John and Estella Huston in Huron Township, Bruce County, and shows Stella's date of birth as April 30, 1874. This does not agree with her age as shown in the Silver City, Nevada, 1880 census, or the 1881 Canadian census as taken in Huron Township, Bruce County. We must believe that she was at least slightly older. Michigan Dept of Health Certificate of Death Stella Huston died March 13, 1935, at ...hospital illegible, Detroit, Wayne County. Residence Detroit, street illegible, but resident there some 11 years. Divorced. Born April, 1873. Age 62 years, 11 months. Birthplace Nevada. Parents Alex Ferguson and Sarah illeg. Informant John Huston, address illeg. Burial Kincardine, Ontario, May 15, 1935. Stella's date of death is shown in numeric form - 3-13-35. The coroner, however, stamped her death form and this is dated March 14, 1935. It's safe to say she died in March. As to her burial being on May 15 of the same year, this seems unlikely, but not unheard of. The one thing that may be said is that the Bruce-Grey branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society has transcribed Kincardine Cemetery and they do not record a burial for Stella Huston or Ferguson. Stella's sister, Mary, is recorded as being buried with their parents. Stella is almost certainly buried at Kincardine. |
