| Note | The 1928 passenger list for the SS Scythia places the birth of William Read in Maine. Finding births for Bill's American born siblings isn't difficult; their births were registered with their names. Bill's birth registration, however, was filed by the doctor two days after his birth and, evidently, his parents had yet to assign him his name. Hence the form only has a stroke of the pen where his name would have appeared. The from, apparently filed at the county level (Kennebuc) reads as follows: State of Maine, Record of Birth: Child's name --------- Date of birth Dec. 10th, 1912 Place of birth: No. Vassalboro Male. Parents 2nd child Father William 'Reed', born England, Mill Operative. Mother's Maiden Name: Carrie Dearden, housewife. Both parents born England. Physician Chas Mabry (or similar), M.D., No. Vassalboro, filed Dec. 12th, 1912. Find-a-Grave shows Bil and Eila's place of burial as being the Blair Cemetery. |
