John Taylor
ID # 9511, (1873-1943)
Father | John Taylor (1843-) |
Mother | Janet Dryden (1851-) |
Birth | John Taylor was born on 4 July 1873. |
Marriage | He married Mary Ella Sherwood, daughter of Thompson Sherwood and Jane A. Dynes, in January 1905 at Fergus, Wellington Co, Ontario. A direct record of marriage for John Taylor and Mary Ella Sherwood has not been found. The Wellington County marriage records in general have been searched without success. It is entirely likely that the omission is a clerical error. The birth registration for son James tells that John Taylor and Mary Ella Sherwood were married in Fergus in January of 1905. For the moment, this appears to be the closest we can come to a marriage record. |
Death | He died on 10 April 1943 at Toronto, York Co., at age 69. |
Burial | He was buried on 13 April 1943 at Sec. 3, Mountview Cemetery, Galt, Ontario. |
Note | Death reg. 004001-43 Toronto, York Co. John Taylor died April 10, 1943, at Toronto General Hospital (after stay of 14 days). Residence RR 4, Galt, Ontario. Date of birth July 4, 1874 (the 1901 census shows his date of birth as July 4, 1873. This is probably the more correct. His gravestone in Mountview Cemetery shows his year of birth as 1873). Married. Born Canada. Age 69. Farmer. Wife's name Mary Sherwood. Parents John Taylor and Mary Dryden, both shown as being born in Canada. Physician (at the hospital) Dr. K. L. Drummond. Informant Mrs. John Taylor, RR4, Galt, wife. Burial Mountview Cemetery, Galt, April 13, 1943. With some regard to the above argument as provided with regard to John Taylor's date of birth...we have the following by way of a birth registration. Birth reg. 002744-76 Huron Twp., Bruce Co. John Taylor born July 2nd, 1875. Parents John Taylor, farmer, and Janet Dryden. Physician's name not provided. The registration was filed a year later, on July 1st, 1876, by John Taylor of Huron Township. John Taylor Sr. filed the date of birth for his daughter Mary on October 13th, 1874, when the registration shows her date of birth as November 1st, 1874. Somewhere here, there's an error, though just what isn't obvious. Whatever it might be, it isn't reasonable that Mary was born on November 1st of 1874, and that then her brother John was born on July 2nd, 1875. A premature birth for John, at the time, might have been survivable, but later census information shows John Jr. as the elder child; his death registration gives his year of birth as 1873; his gravestone shows his year of birth as 1873. This is the more consistent with census information. Was John Jr. born in Huron Township? Sister Mary was. But John? For sure? |
