NoteHe The 1841 census has Edward and Catherine Jenkins in Swansea, Glamorgan, Wales. He is shown as 33, a shipwright, and as have not been born in Swansea, Glamorgan. Catherine is shown as 32 and as having been born in the County of Glamorgan. They have with them daughter Mary. The writing is somewhat obscure, but she appears to be age 19 months. Also with them is Mary Jenkins, age 73, and, again, while the writing is a bit obscure, she was apparently not born in Glamorgan. At a guess, she's Edward's mother.

The 1851 census at St. Paul, Deptford, Greenwich, England, confirms something of the above interpretation, for it's rather more informative than the 1841 census. Edward is said to have been born in Portsea, Hants (Hampshire). Catherine, his wife, is said to have been born in Swansea Glamorganshire. They have with them daughter Mary who is shown as age 11, a scholar, and Catherine, age 9, also a scholar. These two daughters are shown as being born in Swansea.

Also with them in 1851 is daughter Sarah A. She is shown as age 5, a scholar, and as being born in Pembroke, Pembrokeshire. Sarah is not found in the 1861 census and has probably not survived. Without ordering a record from the UK, it seems that Sarah Ann Jenkins was born in the 3rd quarter of 1845. This per an index supplied by FreeBMD. It certainly places her birth in Pembroke.

The 1861 census shows Edward and family at St. Pauls, Deptford, Greenwich. A difference here is that it shows Edward's place of birth as Portsmouth, Hants. Wife Catherine and daughters Mary and Catherine are all shown as being born in Swansea. Edward is a shipwright at H.M. (Her Majesty's) Dockyard. The two daughters are shown as shirtmakers, which probably meant that they worked in a factory.

Our last record found thus far for Edward is the 1871 census. This shows him as age 63. He is a widower, shipwright, and as being born in Portsmouth, Hants. With him is daughter Mary, age 30, born Swansea, Wales. With her is Harry Jenkins, age 5, born Deptford, Kent. He is shown as Edward's grandson.

As said, this is the last record found for Edward Jenkins. For a further note to do with Edward's daughter Mary and his grandson Harry, see notes for Mary's brother-in-law, George Lawrence and the voyage to Canada.

(Note: The years of birth as shown for daughters Mary (1838) and Catherine (1845), are very approximate.
