NoteFrom the Drouin Collection, via Ancestry, we have from the collection of records for Chalmers Presbyterian Church at Quebec City, we have on leaf thirty nine of the book for the year of 1846 a record of the burial of Robert and Sophia's son John who was the first of two of that name. It reads:

John aged two years son of Robert McBride of the City of Quebec, carpenter, died on the twenty fifth and was buried on the twenty sixth of October in the year one thousand eight hundred and forty six.
(Signed) John Clugston, min.
Robt. McBride
John Rickaby

There is really no punctuation in the original of the above. It is mostly clearly written. The implication is that the page was countersigned by Robert McBride and John Rickaby, and this may have been done on some original form, but looking at this page and at other pages in the collection it was probably the clergyman copying in the signatures.

Given John's age at time of death, a year of birth of 1844 is approximated.

This does not tell us the name of the burial cemetery. Also, it does not tell us of young John's place of birth. Looking over such information as we have for the children, however, while uncertain, it is likely that John was the last child of the couple born in Ireland.

The name 'John' must have had some family significance for Robert and Sophia, for when a son was born to them in 1847 they named him John. While such was not a common occurance, it was found frequently enough in naming patterns of families from the British Isles to say that it wasn't unusual.
