Note | The 1861 census at Wellesley (Township) shows John Trimble, age 20, school teacher, born Ireland, Presbyterian. He appears to be in the household of James Dewar. By all logic the marriage of John Trimble and Susan Gotby should appear in the County Marriage Registration books, but has yet to be found. Daughter Amelia, in her marriage registration, tells that her father's name was John Trimble and that she, Amelia, was born in Guelph. We pick up no further information until the death registration for John is found. Death reg. 010369-70 Wellesley, Waterloo Co. John Trimble died March 14, 1870. Age 28. Editor. Born Ireland. Presbyterian. Cause of death consumption and inflammation of the lungs acute attack 4 weeks. Physician Dr. Morton. Informant John Gotby, yeoman, Township of Wellesley. Registered on May 2, 1870. John Trimble was buried in Rushes Presbyterian Cemetery in Wellesley. His date of death as transcribed from his gravestone is March 13, 1870, and which is probably correct. The inscription on the gravestone reads: In memory of John, husband of Susan Trimble, died March 13, 1870. Age 28 yrs and 8 mos. (Verse) John Gotby who was the informant in John Trimble's death can only be Susan's father. Rushes Presbyterian Cemetery was first read and transcribed in 1986 by the Waterloo-Wellington branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society and it is from this that the information from John's gravestone is taken. There is also a photograph of the stone on Find-a-Grave. It's obvious that over 35 years there has been some deterioration. Looking over the transcription for Rushes Cemetery it may be said that there is nothing obvious about John's burial to indicate that he might be buried with Trimble family members. |
