| Note | Familysearch has the following database: England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975. This shows the Christening of Hester Cosens on 17 May, 1807, at Wield in Hampshire, England. Father's name Charles Cosens, mothers name Ann. Hester is buried in Section G of Woodlawn Cemetery in Guelph, though her maiden name is shown as Cousins. She married John Jackson and he is buried with her. Her date of death is shown on her gravestone as May 4, 1856. Her age is given as 49. How to know where to find Hester/Esther Cosens in records? To hand are digital copies of Rev. Donald A. McKenzie's Obituaries from the Christian Guardian. Volume 11 is the significant source for the information. These volumes are in PDF format and so an OCR search of all of them at once is of some use if in fact the name is to be found therein. The volumes may be had in print or in PDF version from Global Heritage Press, formerly of Milton, but now of Ottawa. Volume 11's page 190 has a brief obituary for John Jackson and this tells of his first marriage to Miss Esther Cosens in 1834. It also tells that he came to Canada in 1831. Beyond that, we may then refer to the Wesleyan Methodist Baptisms for further assistance. The obituary tells that he had two sons and two daughters by his first marriage and the baptismal information appears to confirm this. Back to my question as to know where to find Hester/Esther Cosens in records? I totally missed that I had at least a mention of her in my own records, for, with a recent update, I had noted her daughter Annie's marriage to John Tilt and made mention of Annie's parents. Missed that one. |
