Informant Thomas Tilt, Waterloo. Ancestry's The Drouin Collection shows Edwin Bingham Tilt's baptism at Christ Church (Anglican) in Montreal on 5th April, 1908, by the vicar, Herbert Symonds. The witnesses were Chas. A. Hodge and ...rather illegible but may be G. H. Rogers. The career and residential history of Edwin Bingham Tilt has not been followed on all points. His parents, Thomas Tilt and Martha Loughead, are buried in Section F of Maitland Cemetery at Goderich in Huron County. The Goderich stone is rather a family stone which lists four sons of Thomas and Martha, at least two of whom are buried elsewhere. Edwin's name is on the stone and dates his death to 1947. It does not say where he is buried. Find-a-Grave, however, shows his date of death as 20 April, 1947, and his place of burial as Mount Royal Cemetery in Montreal. The 1921 census shows him with wife Mabel and two children in Westmount, Montreal. She is buried in Notre Dame des Neige Cemetery. A photograph of Edwin's stone has not been provided and the information is probably taken from cemetery records, but it seems reasonable that this is where Edwin is actually buried. Mabel's name we may safely say was Peters. Edwin and Mabel appear in the 1921 census in Westmount, Montreal, Quebec. With them are two daughters, Elma age 12 and Maude age 11. Baptisms for these children have been found through Ancestry's Drouin database. They clearly show their mother's maiden name as Peters. They were probably married in Montreal, but a record of their marriage has not been found. |
