This was done by the Oxford County branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society. The gravestone in Wolverton Cemetery shows Thomas' year of birth as 1872 (month and date not shown). The 1901 census, however, shows his date of birth as July 17, 1873. His birth and baptism record shows his date of birth as July 17, 1869. Sometimes an early child might be born to a couple and named after the paternal grandfather. The child might die and then a later child again be named after the grandfather. With Thomas' date of birth being shown as July 17, this scenario seems quite unlikely. We may safely take 1869 as being his year of birth. |
