Witnesses William Henderson and Katie Clark, both of Galt. On 13th April, 1891, at Galt, by Rev. Alex. Jackson. The second witness, Katie Clark, may be correct as shown, or her correct name may have been Katie Kramp and Clark an error. Note the William, James' younger brother, was the first witness and some two weeks later her married Katie Kramp. |
| Marriage | He married Mary Davidson, daughter of Robert Davidson and Agnes Gamble. A marriage registration for James and Mary has been sought, but not found. See notes for James. |
| Note | It is safe to say that James' first wife was Mary Davidson. Mary Davidson Henderson died 12th December, 1888. A marriage record for James and Mary has yet to be found. James is with his second wife, Annie Wilson, as of the 1891 census at Galt. with them are sons James Robert and William Henry. James filed birth registrations for his sons with the Town of Galt clerk - James in 1883 and William in 1885. These name their mother as Mary Davidson. James married Annie Wilson on 6th April, 1891; the census page upon which they appear in Galt was enumerated on 29th April, 1891. We may safely say that Annie is James' second wife, Annie Wilson. James and Annie are in Buffalo, New York, at the time of the 1900 U.S. census. James and Annie are still in Buffalo, New York, as of the 1910 census. This tells that they came to the U.S. in 1895. Annie is said to have had two children, of which one is living. With them is a daughter, Edith, age 11, who we must believe to be Annie's surviving child. Other family entries on this page are subject to some interpretation to the point it's possible to suspect an enumerator's error. Still, we must believe James and Annie as being formerly of Galt in Ontario. Records of death and burial for James and Annie have not been found. We may say however that James and Annie are still living in Buffalo as of the 1920 U.S. census. This census correctly places Annie's birth in Scotland. A note here. The 1891 census at Galt shows James Hendderson to be a safe maker. The birth registrations for sons James and William, 1883 and 1885, filed in Galt, describe James as a safe maker. About the only safe making business in Galt from early days was Goldie & McCulloch. James' brother-in-law David Davidson died in 1933. His death registration describes him as a safe maker for Goldie & McCulloch. Goldie & McCulloch's safes were installed in many banks across Canada. This included the large walk-in safes that had safety deposit boxes. |
