Physician and informant J. W. Osbourne, M.D., Onondaga. Elizabeth's gravestone in Farringdon Burial Ground dates her death to September 23rd, 1873, and this may be correct. Dr. Osbourne reported her date of death as being September 3rd of the year. He returned this death to the Onondaga Township clerk on October 3rd of the year. Elizabeth's death is recorded on the same stone as that of her husband, John. An error could have been made, or Dr. Osbourne made a mistake, or the township clerk was in error. An obituary has been sought without success. Page 642 of Warner & Beers 1883 history of Brant County, in its brief biography of John Hartley, repeats Elizabeth's date of death as being September 23rd. Her death may well have been recorded in family bible with this date. Family bible's, however, aren't always accurate, so it's a bit of a toss-up. |
