| Note | Warner & Beers, 1883 History of the County of Brant, page 642, has a brief biography of John Hartley. This tells that he was born on January 13, 1818, in England. This tells that he was located at Onondaga and names his children. It also names his wife as Elizabeth Field. The transcription of his gravestone, as provided by the Brant County branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society tells that his wife's parents were James and Elizabeth Field. It also locates John's place of birth as Barnoldswick in Yorkshire. Death reg. 001418-89 Brantford, Brant Co. John Hartley died 15th July, 1889, age 71 years and 6 months. Retired farmer. Born England. Reglion Independent. Cause of death jaundice four months. Physician Dr. J. W. Digby. Informant Wallace Hartley, occupation illegible, Brantford. Burial indexing indicates that John Hartley is buried in Farringdon Burial Ground in Brantford. As a footnote, Barnoldswick is now in Lancashire. This became the case in a shire reorganization dating back to 1974. Prior to that, it was located in West Yorkshire. |
