| Marriage | She married Rev. Sylvester L. Kerr on 15 August 1848. Vol. 3 of Rev. Donald a. McKenzie's More Notices from Methodist Newspapers, 1830-1857, page 97, Global Heritage Press, Milton (now Ottawa), 2010, records the marriage of Rev. S. Karr of Thorold to Susannah Dawdy of Ancaster on August 15th, 1848. This does not tell of the location of the marriage. The above marriage notice shows the groom's name as Karr, but Jeremiah Dawdy's obituary from 1887 shows his son-in-law's name as Kerr. See notes for Susannah's father, Jeremiah Dawdy. Mrs. Ferguson, in Ancaster's Heritage, names Susannah as one of Jeremiah's children. She places her as second in order of birth, which may well be correct. What is clear is that by the time of the 1851 census, begun in January of 1852, Susannah was no longer in her parental household. |

| Note | Sylvester Kerr died in 1896. By the time of the 1901 census in Toronto, Susannah is living with son William and his wife Grace. Her date of birth is given and this, while faint, reads Sept. 19, 1832. As said, Susannah was living with son William as of the 1901 census, or it just may be the reverse - that William and his family were living with his mother. The 1891 census shows Sylvester and Susannah in St. Lawrence Ward of Toronto. They do not appear, however, in city directory information until 1892 when they are at 206 Logan. This may be rather more in central Toronto. They do not appear in directory information previously. Susannah was living at 206 Logan, according to directory information, as late as 1903. Death reg. 001610-06 Toronto, York Co. Susan Kerr died 28 Feb. 1906. Age 73. Residence 49 Hamilton. Widow. Born Canada. Methodist. Physician shown as T.G.H. Staff (staff of the Toronto General Hospital). Reporting person A. W. W. Caulfield. Rather more informative is the information on the burial page of Mount Pleasant Cemetery. The images of these pages are of a cooperative effort between the Toronto branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society and Familysearch. This shows Susan Ann Kerr, age 73, died Feb. 28, 1906, at Toronto General Hospital and that she was buried on March 2nd. Born Ancaster, Ont. Her remains were moved in 1924 to a grave property apparently owned by William L. Kerr. This does appear to also be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. A Mount Pleasant Group index shows her to be buried in Plot 14, Section 1, lot 25. A similar index search has not shown son William nor husband Sylvester. Considering the endorsements on Sylvester's burial record, we must believe Sylvester and Susan to be buried together. |
