ID # 8535, (1850-1909)
Father | Jeremiah Dawdy (1800-1887) |

Birth | Bristol Dawdy was born on 3 November 1850 at Ancaster Twp., Wentworth Co.. |
Marriage | He married Johanna Donovan on 4 March 1874 at South Lynden, Ancaster Twp., Wentworth Co.. The clerk's handwriting on this marriage registration is difficult to put it mildly. Help, especially with the bride's maiden name, has been found in other sources: Mrge reg. 010500-74 AncasterTwp., Wentworth Co. Bristo Dawdy, 23, bachelor, farmer, Methodist Episcopal. Born and residing Ancaster. Parents Jeremiah Dawdy and Sarah Ann Vansickle. Johanna Donovan, 20, spinster, Methodist Episcopal. Born and residing Ancaster. Parents John and Bridget Donovan. Witnesses Wesley Robinson and Ellen Robinson, both of Ancaster. On March 4, 1874, at South Lynden, by W. J. Brown. There is a village of Lynden in Wentworth County, but this is in what was once Beverly Township. What is intended by 'South Lynden' is unknown. Johanna's maiden name is badly written. Looking over Ancaster's Heritage, Volume 1, The Ancaster Township Historal Society, page 214, which presents a brief history of the Donovan Family, it is clearly stated that Bristol Dawdy married Johanna Donovan. She is said to have been her parents ninth child. |

Note | The handwriting on Bristol's death registration is difficult to read. Death reg. 031451-09 Ancaster Twp., Wentworth Co. Bristol Dawdy died 11 July, 1909, age 59. Place of death lot 31, concession...overstamped and unreadable. Farmer. Married. Parents Jeremiah Dawdy and Vansickle (first name not given), both born Canada. It appears as though the physian and informant shown on the form are one and the same person, though the handwriting is past difficult to sort out. A transcription of White Brick Church Cemetery in Ancaster, as provided by the Hamilton branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society, shows Bristol and Johanna buried with Bristol's parents. |
